About Mae
My work as a doula is grounded in the belief that birth is a sacred initiation, that a pregnant person is the best authority in their own pregnancy and birth, and that physiologic birth is beautifully designed and best left undisturbed.
After many years of feeling called to birth work, I finally decided to train as a doula when I became pregnant with my first baby and felt the immensity of it all. My life and body were changing so fast. I was faced with an overwhelming array of choices. I longed for the company and council of wise women. The witness and guidance of my midwives and doula helped me to navigate difficulties, to trust myself, and to have a birth that was beautiful and powerful, although it was very different from what I had expected and planned. My experience through that pregnancy and birth led me to fully believe that birth is magic and it is medicine. Then my postpartum time began and it was the most precious and most challenging time of my life. I had learned about the importance of nourishment and support in this time and now I felt it, deep in my bones.
During my pregnancy and early postpartum I completed an extensive training with Indie Birth to be a birth and postpartum doula. I am grateful to have training that thoroughly covered both the clinical and the spiritual aspects of pregnancy and birth and I am passionate about helping women truly understand their options, make choices from their own center, and move through the initiations of motherhood with power, confidence, and grace.
I came to birth work after a career in dance performance and somatic education and it feels like a natural evolution. My work has always come from a commitment to exploring the intersection of the physical, the emotional, and the mystical. Birth is a wild improvisation and I am honored to be with women in it.
